Our commitment for 2027

Zaptec is planning to support AFIR compliance by 1 January 2027. Preparations are well underway, with software, hardware and backend updates being rolled out throughout 2026.

What is AFIR and who does it apply to?

AFIR is the EU regulation designed to ensure a harmonised and user-friendly recharging infrastructure across Europe. Among other things, the regulation sets requirements for:

  • Interoperability between chargers and vehicles
  • Transparent pricing information at the charging point
  • The ability to pay ad hoc without a subscription
  • Standardised payment and communication solutions

The requirements primarily apply to publicly accessible charging points – for example, chargers in housing cooperatives, businesses, car parks, retail locations and other settings where multiple users have access.

What this means for you as a customer

With Zaptec’s home and commercial charging solutions, you can be confident that we are working to enable and support AFIR‑compliant charging by 1 January 2027. Our goal is to ensure transparency, ease of use and flexible payment options as the new EU rules take effect.

We will share more product‑specific information as testing and certifications are completed.
