Why electric?

As of 2030, the UK will be putting an end to the sale of all petrol and diesel cars, with a mission to accelerate a greener transport future.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported figures that estimated that electric vehicle sales have overtaken diesel. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), latest figures propose almost one-in-five new cars that are sold worldwide this year will either be plug-in hybrid or full battery models.

As petrol and diesel cars are gradually being pushed out by electric vehicles, we have selected a roundup of our top electric cars of 2023.

Best electric cars of 2023

Mercedes EQS

Battery range: 464 miles

This sleek, all-electric car has been coined Mercedes ‘flagship of the future’. It features a large battery, allowing you to do 453 miles in its most efficient form – rivalling very few. With a spacious cabin and lots of tech and equipment as standard, it’s one worth looking into for those who have the budget to do so.

Porsche Taycan

Battery range: 273 miles

This GT sports boasts an impressive handling and drive. It can cover between 231 and 314 miles between charges, depending on the model chosen. The favoured model in the range is the 4S, which has a 282 mile range. Though it is pricey, the features justify the price-tag.

Renault Megane E-Tech

Battery range: 280 miles

The latest instalment of Renault’s popular Megane family hatchback is this all-electric fifth generation model. With a high-tech cabin, large boot and a 99mph top speed – this model also weighs in at 1,636kg, making it lighter than some other electric cars. As with other models in this range, the battery remains consistent at 60k Watt-hours and mile range of 280.

Nissan Ariya

Battery range: 250 miles

The all-electric Nissan Ariya is hailed as the top performer across the board, thanks to its combination of engineering, quality and technology. As well as the design, the 87k watt-hour battery allows you to cover a range of 250 miles. This fully capable all-electric family SUV is sure to convince more families to make the move to battery-powered motoring.

Citroen e-C4 & e-C4 X

Battery range: Over 200 miles

Both of these all-electric family vehicles offer comfort and originality, which is what Citroen is well known for. As well as claiming over 200 miles of battery range, the charging capability is impressive. You can expect a 10% to 80% charge in as short as just 30 minutes. The petrol-powered C4 was votes as ‘the best car to own’ in 2023, so the e-C4 and e-C4 X are sure to be just as popular.

MG4

Battery range: Up to 281 miles

The MG4 offers efficiency and affordability, for a family style car with a sportier drive. The design provides a streamlined finish with plenty of legroom and a comfortable driving position, thanks to plenty of adjustment on the steering column. The MG4 is capable of rapid charging, boasting an impressive 80% charge that can be completed in as little as 31 minutes. With plenty of advanced driver assistance systems, the MG4 looks to be a trailblazer in the EV market.
