Sustainability commitments

Our vision is simple: to create practical, efficient EV charging solutions that fit seamlessly into today’s energy infrastructure. At the core of our technology is advanced load and phase balancing— a feature that intelligently distributes all the available power, reducing strain on the grid and ensuring that energy is used where and when it's needed most.

We feel obligated to create solutions for better energy use that paves the way for the widespread adoption of EVs. By smoothing out energy demands, our chargers can operate within the existing power grid, delaying the need for costly and complex upgrades and expansions. It’s a direct approach to managing growth in EV usage without overburdening our current systems.

This practical, no-nonsense thinking is what drives us when we're dreaming up new products, too. Every new idea has to help make EVs an easy choice for more people.

Upholding the highest standards of human rights and worker welfare across our entire value chain. We believe in fostering a culture where people are respected, valued, and empowered to thrive. There is a long and complex path from raw materials to end product in electronics, and the right to decent working conditions needs to be respected throughout a complex supply chain. As such, human rights remains a key priority for us.

What we have done:

• In 2023 Zaptec developed its policy to protect and defend human rights.
• We joined the Responsible Business Alliance to join efforts with the rest of the electronics industry.
• We have updated our suppliers’ code of conduct and we have mapped human rights risks in our value chain.

What we will do:

• In 2024 we are preparing for a comprehensive human rights due diligence process and we will report on our work again by 1 July 2024.

Actively contributing to the global effort to limit climate change, we align our strategies and operations to meet and exceed the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Not only do we affect climate change, but climate change will also affect our business. We believe everyone has a role to play in combatting climate change. Besides working to understand and reduce the climate footprint of our product, we also see an opportunity to develop technology that helps address climate change through enabling the acceleration of electrification.

What we have done:

• In 2023, Zaptec started to work with Normative. We developed our first set of green house gas accounting for 2022 and we will publish our 2023 emission data when we have completed data collection and analysis.

• We also chose to work with Variable and will in 2024 map the carbon footprint of the products in our portfolio.

While ensuring our operations honor and contribute positively to the natural environment, we aim for a practical approach towards minimising waste and promoting the sustainable use of resources.

Through focusing on circularity, we want to contribute to reducing the increasing volumes of electronic waste by bring valuable materials back into the loop and protect the natural environment. More than 50 million tons of e-waste are generated every year, with only about 20% being recycled through proper channels. As such we want to enhance the lifetime of our products and repair them where possible to extend their useful life.

What we have done:

• Developed a minerals policy and taken a stance against deep seabed mining.
• In 2023, we refurbished 517 chargers and responsibly recycled 974.
• Started to work actively to increase the % of recycled materials and minerals. Disclosure on this will come in 2024 when the data has been verified.

What will we do?

• We will develop our minerals roadmap.
• Continuously explore more sustainable materials.
• Develop sustainable design and product guidelines.
  
• We will continue to develop our refurbishing and recycling program. Our commitment to durability extends beyond the 5-year guarantee, fixing charging stations even if the issues result from accidental damage or wear and tear. Our goal is to promote sustainability by encouraging the repair and continued use of our charging stations, reducing electronic waste, and ensuring customer satisfaction for the long haul.

We value openness and honesty, committed to reporting transparently on our sustainability efforts, progress, and impacts, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.

We see transparency as an enabler of sustainable performance: to manage something, we need to understand it. And to understand it, we need truthful and reliable information to work from. As part of our commitment to being honest about our sustainability efforts, Zaptec signed the principles against greenwashing.

What we have done:

• Signed the principles against greenwashing.
• Established our policy against corruption.
• Our 2023 Sustainability report will be released during Q1, 2024.
