Zaptec joins Octopus and BYD to enable UK’s first bidirectional charging bundle
London, 23 June 2025 – Octopus Energy, BYD and Zaptec have today launched the UK’s first commercial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) offering as part of the new Power Pack bundle.
The initiative marks a major step forward in Zaptec’s mission to accelerate the energy transition and demonstrates the capability of the V2G-enabled Zaptec Pro charger to integrate seamlessly into Britain’s most advanced clean energy products.
Through this partnership, Octopus Energy is offering UK EV drivers a first-of-its-kind V2G bundle – combining a BYD electric vehicle, a Zaptec Pro charger with bidirectional capability and the Power Pack tariff, which includes free charging for up to 12,000 miles annually. The bundle not only makes V2G technology accessible to everyday drivers, but also delivers significant savings, up to 620GBP a year compared to standard electricity tariffs, and nearly 1,000GBP compared to petrol costs.
This launch is a defining moment for Zaptec in the UK. As the first commercially available V2G bundle, it’s proof that this isn’t just future tech, it's working today. The Power Pack Bundle is the first in the UK for make bidirectional EV charging a reality for consumers, allowing drivers to export energy back to the grid during peak periods. The entire system is seamlessly managed via Octopus’ Kraken platform for effortless user experience.
Developed in close collaboration between Octopus, BYD and Zaptec, the Zaptec Pro’s bidirectional capability is already live, with deployments planned via a waiting list due to huge demand. This rollout lays the foundation for a scalable smart energy platform, with the potential to rapidly expand across the UK and Europe.
As the energy landscape shifts, pioneering partnerships, as we have seen today, turn electric vehicles from passive consumers into active participants. V2G turns cars into ‘batteries on wheels’ – mobile energy storage that can support the grid. With Zaptec’s bidirectional charger, each installation becomes a small but powerful gateway to the grid.
