Zaptec and Kraken team up to make EV charging smarter
As homes, vehicles and the electricity grid become more connected, it can also play an important role in how we use energy. Your EV charger starts doing more than to charge your car.

That is the thinking behind Zaptec’s new strategic partnership with Kraken, the operating system for utilities. Together, the companies will work to connect more EV drivers across Europe to intelligent charging, smart tariffs and other connected energy services.
Zaptec is already installing chargers at scale, with almost 1,000 Zaptec chargers installed every day in June. The partnership with Kraken combines Zaptec’s charging technology with Kraken’s energy flexibility capabilities.
For customers, this means more ways to get value from their charger after it has been installed. The partnership will help enable intelligent EV tariffs and smarter charging, including optimising when a vehicle charges to take advantage of electricity that is cheaper, cleaner or more abundant.
This is part of Zaptec’s wider approach to connected charging. Through software, open integrations and partnerships, the company is working to make chargers more useful over time, with services spanning smart tariffs, solar integration, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and energy flexibility.
The announcement also follows Zaptec becoming the first manufacturer to earn the Mercury Mark for an AC EV charger. The Mercury Consortium is a vendor-neutral, nonprofit organisation working to make connected energy services, including smart charging and energy flexibility, more accessible.
Kraken sees EV charging as an increasingly important part of the energy system as EV adoption grows.
Charging will become an increasingly important part of how we manage energy across our homes and the grid. By combining Kraken’s flexibility capabilities with Zaptec’s charging technology, we can bring those benefits to more customers
The partnership will launch across European markets where both Zaptec and Kraken operate.
