Nordseterskogen housing company has EV ready garage with Zaptec

Nordseterskogen housing company has made 108 parking spaces in the garage ready for use with the Zaptec loading system for electric cars. The Borettslag sought further support from the Climate Authority in Oslo Municipality. Power costs for electric car charging are distributed through the OBOS.

Nordseterskogen housing company has made the entire garage EV ready with Zaptec

Nordseterskogen housing cooperative has 108 parking spaces. After installation of the ZapCharger Pro charging system in September 2017, every single parking slot is ready for charging of electrical vehicles (EV’s). The project started in September 2016 when two EV owners wanted a charging solution. The housing cooperative considered several different solutions for charging electric cars before deciding on the ZapCharger Pro system.
While comparing the ZapCharger Pro charging system with others charging solutions that we considered, the alternatives had a much more cumbersome infrastructure and higher cost.” says Fredrik N. Engh, chairman of the housing cooperative.
It was essential to ensure a comprehensive charging solution with easy scalability, as well as not compromising on the safety of charging for our EV owners. The charging solution had to scale so that everyone in the housing team could be able to charge their EV in the future without a significant upgrade in the infrastructure.

Before the time of installation of the charging infrastructure in September 2017, there were only two electric cars in the housing cooperative, while after the garage was EV ready, the number of EV’s has increased from 2 to 15 EV’s over just a few months. Several residents have already been in contact with chairman Fredrik N. Engh to hear more about the charging solution now available before purchasing an electric car. We are already planning to invest in EV charging for our 18 parking spots for guest parking this year.

Residents of Nordseterskogen housing cooperative can easily buy the ZapCharger Pro charging station through the housing cooperative’s website; the charging station then gets connected to the existing infrastructure by a certified electrician.

The housing cooperative has chosen to allocate power costs through monthly payment from the housing association OBOS. Once a year the price per kWh is set based on historical rates, and the total cost per resident per year is calculated based on the actual consumption each resident has. Each ZapCharger Pro charging station has a built-in energy meter and sends information about the power consumption to the cloud solution (ZapCloud) so that the board can quickly distribute the cost of actual power consumption.
The online feature (ZapCloud portal) is excellent, the cloud solution makes management to the board very easy. We’re confident that we chose the right solution.
At Nordseterskogen, the housing cooperative has chosen to back the cost of the infrastructure for all residents and sought further funds from the Climate Authority in Oslo Municipality for implementation. There are several environmental measures that housing cooperatives and unions can apply funds from to make the transition into EV charging an easier decision economically.
By investing in an EV ready garage, we have already received a return on investment in the form of a higher rise in value for the apartments in the housing cooperative, says Engh
